Wainuiomata Dog Training Club was established around 1976. It held it’s first show at Richard Prouse Park.
The club started it’s training in the carpark at the Wainuiomata Mall which was a wonderful all weather surface and which self-promoted because it was so visible to passers-by. Then when the Mall started weekend trading the carpark became too busy and the club had to move it’s training to Fernlea School. We enjoyed the tenancy at Fernlea School for about 2 years, until we arranged with the council to have our own grounds at our current location at the end of Burden Ave.
In the first couple of years we had a wonderful new building with large training grounds. Then the Parks and River section of the Government told us of their plans to put a significant stop bank through the grounds which reduced them in size to what they are today.
We run an extensive program of training, both domestic and competitive.
All of our courses incorporate Canine Good Citizen training.
Our instructors are always attending seminars on the latest training techniques.
